Personality Profile
Local country duo, The Highway Sisters, have personalities as big as their talent and aspirations.
KK Bodiford and Amelia Presley are the two extroverted women who make up this Texas based country duo. Bodiford and Presley both relocated to Texas to focus on music fulltime.
The Highway Sisters gain inspiration from their families as well as many artists including but not limited to Willie Nelson, Chris Stapleton, and Jason Isbell. These people were some of the many pushing forces behind the upcoming release of their EP Smoke and Mirrors.
Being bullied as a child pushed Bodiford into music.“Music was the best therapy that saved me. I redirected all the negativity, and poured everything into [music],” she said. Presley can’t remember a time when music was not a part of her life. “I listened to my father singing as a child. He would make up songs for me. He never stopped singing no matter where he was. I knew that I wanted to be a singer from a young age,” she said.
Originally from Kansas, Bodiford is mom to 8-year-old daughter, Cameron, and the wife of Chris Bodiford. She was previously a pre-school teacher and a pharmaceutical sales representative, before she decided to pursue music fulltime. She broke onto the music scene on the first season of Nashville Star where she competed and was a finalist along side Miranda Lambert.
Presley, born in Mississippi, is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, as well as a military wife and mom to 9-year-old son, Barrett and 19-month old daughter, Anna Elaine. Aside from being an active duty machinery technician petty officer from 2010-2015, she also worked on a horse farm and in a shipyard before she put everything into music. She sold her horse to record her first album, and released three singles.
These women have hearts as big as the state they have adopted as their home. From rescue animal benefit concerts, to Bodiford’s children’s book “Anything About You,” these women do everything in their power to spread joy and love to the people around them.
Their personalities fit the everything-is-bigger perception of Texas as well. Quirky social media videos, Presley doing the worm at shows, and pretty much anything Bodiford says or does will affirm this accusation. “They are hilarious, and so much fun to work with,” Scott Best, 26, former band technician for The Highway Sisters, said.
The Highway Sister’s first EP Smoke and Mirrors is set to release soon, and they couldn’t be more excited. These women have big dreams, great vibes, and humble goals.
“I hope to make a difference in others' lives through music.Whether it be for healing or for celebration, music is the best therapy. I also want to show my daughter that no matter what, dreams are worth chasing, and they will come true if you work hard and truly believe in yourself,” said Bodiford.
“I hope that we can touch lives and help people to realize that being genuine to oneself is the best way to live life.” Said Presley.
