“"This modern day Thelma and Louise duo is taking the nation by storm with their funny antics along side songwriting. It's safe to say these ladies are a fire burning with gasoline and it will be damn near impossible to put them out." -Texas Local Live”
The Highway Sisters are a duo that seamlessly harmonizes by switching from low harmonies to high harmonies often within the same song as well as switching lead vocals. Between songs, they make the crowd laugh with their antics and even write improv songs on stage. They have performed live on air on CBS station's Great Day Houston and Fox station's Great Day Fresno. They have performed at The Grand Ole Opry and have opened for Texas Country and Country greats such as Brandon Rhyder and Buddy Jewell.
Highway Sisters’ debut EP features unlikely harmonies between KK Bodiford and Amelia Presley. Both voices are unique in their own right but when combined, “just work”. Each song was written and co-written by KK Bodiford and Amelia Presley. The EP was produced by Eric McKinney of Wonderland Studios, Austin, TX.
The overall sound blurs the lines between Singer-Songwriter, Americana and Traditional Country while even incorporating a bit of blues-rock in the edginess of the vocals. The lyrics are reminiscent in “Papa”, inspirational in “Real You” and “Smoke and Mirrors”, raw in “Gold Digger” and even comical in “I Drink Too Much”. The overall feel of the EP embodies the journey and obstacles that the duo overcame to create “Smoke and Mirrors”.
Both KK and Amelia have had their individual spotlight on national television. KK was one of twelve finalists alongside Miranda Lambert on the first season of Nashville Star. In fact, Miranda was her roommate. Highway Sisters will join a few of the other Nashville Star finalists including the season’s winner, Buddy Jewell, this Saturday in concert to benefit Valley Children’s Hospital in Laton, CA. Amelia’s audition for American Idol was recently aired and Luke Bryan was quoted saying, “I think Elvis would be proud.” Together, Highway Sisters endured obstacles in a previous band when their styles and authenticity were challenged by a financier who worried more about appearance and “Smoke and Mirrors” (thus the EP name) than actually creating authentic music and staying genuine.
The story found within this duo is deep, comical and inspiring. More than the story, the connection between these two “sisters” is nothing short of what legends are made of, thus coining their nicknames; “Thelma and Louise”.
